ASSOCIATION FOR COMPUTER MACHINERY

2

Following the IGDTUW tradition of one society at every Department, year 2012 saw Department of Information Technology forming a technical student society named “IGDTU ACM Student Chapter” as its flagship technical society to be supported and promoted by the Department.

Since a society once formed shall remain in existence for years to follow, a “Student Chapter Formation Team” was constituted comprising of enthusiastic student volunteers (Ms. Muskan Arora, Ms. Arushi Paliwal, Ms. Jasmine Kaur Sardana, Ms. Anshu Yadav, Ms. Sakshi Gupta, et al.) who conducted extensive desk research and deliberations. A detailed report was prepared recommending Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) as the most appropriate and suitable Technical Society under the aegis of which Department may form a Student Chapter and conduct various technical activities.

ACM, the world’s largest educational and scientific computing society, delivers resources that advance computing as a science and a profession. ACM provides the computing field's premier Digital Library and serves its members and the computing profession with leading-edge publications, conferences, and career resources.

Subsequent to the approval, guidance and support of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, IGIT Prof. Nupur Prakash and founding Head of Department, Dr. R. K. Singh, “IGDTUW ACM Student Chapter” was formed in April, 2012, and Mr. Rishabh Kaushal, Assistant Professor from the Department nominated as Faculty Advisor for the Society. Within a short span of time Society was joined by over 75 student members, Ms. Gunjan Bhardwaj, B.Tech(IT) IV Semester (Chair), Ms. Gunjan Sharma, B.Tech.(IT) IV Semester and Ms. Ankisha Aggarwal, M.C.A. II Semester became its office bearers.

Since its inception, the Student Chapter has successfully hosted numerous highly useful events in the field of computing and helped students improve their skills and gain knowledge, taking it a step beyond curriculum.

IGDTUW ACM Student Chapter has and shall continue to strive towards providing a platform for the students to take initiatives and learn in the fast changing field of Information Technology.
